First time fighting against the Ad Mech, with a Death Korps of Kriegsman in command! A glorious victory that ended 50-5 Victory Points.
This mission was interesting due to its objectives where, as the attacker, I could destroy objectives for bonus VP instead of just controlling them. This meant I could deny points from the enemy. It also had a very interesting deployment zone layout, which enabled me to in effect get a turn one charge with my vehicles!
The mission layout. Note: I was the attacker.
Anyway, onto the report:
Subject: After Action Report: Engagement with Adeptus Mechanicus Forces
From: Marshal 100523, Death Korps of Krieg (attached to the Vilniaus 39th), Astra Militarum
I hereby provide an official report of the engagement against Adeptus Mechanicus forces with the objective to destroy their vital communications equipment.
Forces deployed from the Vilniaus 39th included a Leman Russ squadron under the command of Captain Tread, a platoon under my command consisting of two squads of Vilniaus 39th infantry, and a squad from the 117th Mordian Iron Guard, mounted in a Chimera.
The enemy force was comprised of a considerable mass of Skitarii infantry, an Onager Dunecrawler walker, Kataphron Destroyers, and Pteraxii Sterylizors.
The forces deployed for battle - including my sandwich.
Our Leman Russ squadron was positioned on the left flank and initiated the engagement with an aggressive advance on the Skitarii infantry. Captain Tread and the Leman Russ Punisher executed a formidable offensive, eliminating half of the enemy infantry instantly. Captain Tread demonstrated exceptional bravery by crushing a significant portion of the enemy forces beneath his tank.
The tanks charge!
Simultaneously, on the right flank, our Chimera advanced at full throttle towards the Kataphron Destroyers. With the application of its heavy flamers and covering fire from our infantry, the enemy was compelled to retreat. The 117th Mordian Iron Guard disembarked and proceeded with the destruction of the communications equipment.
Nobody expects the Chimera to charge!
In response, the enemy forces targeted our tanks at range, and with the addition of the Onager Dunecrawler armed with a Neutron laser, Captain Tread's tank was incapacitated. However, the remaining Leman Russ continued the assault, eliminating the remainder of the enemy infantry and the enemy commander. It then rammed the communications equipment, rendering it inoperable.
The Punisher readies it’s Gatling cannon to finish off the enemy infantry. At the rear the Onager readies it’s Neutron laser. Truly a fearsome weapon…when it hits.
On the right flank, the Mordian Iron Guard and our platoon annihilated the majority of the Kataphron Destroyers, securing the objective. The Chimera continued its pursuit, incinerating any remaining opposition.
The Mordians secure the area and engage the remaining Kataphron Destroyers, having already destroyed the enemy comms equipment. The Chimera continues it’s pursuit.
Subsequently, a contingent of Pteraxii Sterylizors launched a surprise aerial assault on our rear flank. However, thanks to the rigorous training of our Cadian Shock squads, this threat was swiftly neutralised.
A flock of Pteraxii Sterylizors appears from the heavens and char-grills some Guardsmen, and is immediately engaged by the platoon at short range.
The engagement concluded with a decisive victory for our forces, despite the loss of Captain Tread's tank and approximately 25% casualties within our infantry. The destruction of the enemy's communications equipment should significantly disrupt their command and control capabilities.
Yours dutifully,
Marshal 100523 Death Korps of Krieg (attached to the Vilniaus 39th) Astra Militarum
This works out to be my first victory in this crusade (and in 9th)! Onwards to the next battle…
