Following on from yesterday’s tutorial about my lazy simple winter urban bases, I’ve had something of a bonanza - finishing the basing for 3 squads over the weekend (alongside some other painting).
All your base are belong to us

With this Cadian Command Squad, Sentinel, and Imperial Navy Breachers done, I’ve made some significant progress in reducing the amount of WIP in my Warhammer shenanigans - it’s essential to actually get stuff ‘done done’!
The good - my WIP is now down to two squads. The bad, I bought Knight Commander Pask before he went OOP - the backlog grows…
Bringing out the big guns
Next up is to get the first of my Ordinance Batteries over the line. I’ve made solid progress, including a bunch of the base coats done on the gunners, and the guns are nearing completion (sans the base). Here are a couple of pics:

These have been a good experiment, similar to the Sentinel, where I primed at least part of the model in Leadbelcher, followed by a liberal wash with Nuln Oil, then a drybrush with Stormhost Silver. Nice easy way to get something functional without painting huge amounts of metal paint with a brush (which just…sucks). I think I’ll still pick out a few items like cables and so forth to make more of the model ‘pop’.
And next? Once I’ve finished these, the next wave of Astra Militarum reinforcements will have released. I think I’ll grab a set or two of the Cadian Upgrades (pic below) to festoon my next Cadian Shock squad with a few choice items.
I have to say, kudos to Games Workshop for this as their strategy - great way to upsell by offering some lovely looking upgrades as an add-on SKU. However… it’s really a bit of a shame that bayonets are an optional extra… you could say I find that a bit of a sticking point.
Next week I’ll be travelling a bit in Germany, and have a race on Saturday, so not sure when my next update will be. Until next time, thanks for reading!
