As mentioned last time, my next immediate goal is to tackle the remaining infantry squads. I decided to experiment, so of the three squads, two will be my standard colour scheme. The third I will do as Mordian Iron Guard leveraging the scheme in this The Painting Phase video:
(Aside: The Painting Phase is really good. Great content with a focus on people who don’t have much time and want to focus more on getting things ‘battle-ready’. Sounds great to me!)
Introducing…the 117th Mordian Iron Guard!
Here’s my beginning for my Mordian contingent…

I really like this scheme. To make them all look like Mordian Iron Guardsmen (who, if you didn’t know, wear blue dress uniforms and caps instead of helmets), I’ve used the various caps in the Cadian Shock Troops and Cadian Upgrade sets. The sergeant’s head is the tank commander’s from the Cadian Upgrade set.
This colour scheme has a lot to like about it. The blues recommended in the video (Frostheart and Stormfiend) look great and will differentiate this squad from the rest of the army. The red stripe down the trousers is the first time I’ve done that sort of detail, and I think it works really well!
(Yes, they are the 117th out of my interest in the Halo series…)
…and the rest
Overall I’ve made good progress on batch-painting 30 dudes. Along with priming, I’ve done the fatigues and armour for my normal colour scheme - on the Mordian folk I’ve managed to get the trousers done. Meaningful progress for a lot of models!
At this rate, in a couple of weeks these 30 will be done (not sure if I can manage the bases too, but I’ll give it a go!). Once done, the remaining items from the two Cadia Stands sets will be a command squad, two more ordinance field guns, and a sentinel. The end will be in sight!
