Command squad updates, plus a sentinel!
Today I managed to get a good session in while getting ready for a business trip. I made good progress on the first command squad, and also with the first sentinel of the army.
Note: apologies in advance for the lighting in today’s photos - this was after sundown and it’s just not the same without daylight.
Command squad
This command squad is assembled just like in the codex, as I wanted to experience putting all the specialists together. Here are some pics:
The most interesting thing about painting this sort of unit is the variety. Every member has some kind of specialised equipment - like the particularly antique-looking vox set (with a printer!), or the medic who I chose to give white armour for certain segments, along with blue latex gloves and a mask.
And here are some close-ups of the individual members. I’ve included the back of the colour sergeant just to show how the flag is the same on the reverse.

These are gorgeous models, I’m pretty happy with the result. I love the sergeant totting both a powerfist and a cigar.
These are definitely in the ‘battle-ready’ camp, so the next step for them is basing.
It tastes like chicken
Next up I made some more progress on the first sentinel. This mostly included finishing up the plasmacannon, including using Ork Flesh paint for the plasma glow, and some Wraithbone to drybrush over the red armour. For the whole model I then drybrushed metal areas with Stormhost Silver.

As this is a vehicle I could imagine adding a few more details, like a couple of transfers - something that I haven’t done before! It would make for a great experiment for next time perhaps! For now, the next step is to finish up the basing.
What’s next?
Next up I’ll look to finish both these squads with bases, and potentially try out transfers on the sentinel. After this, I’ll focus on the ordinance battery and the bullgryns to get them battle-ready.
Note: I’ll be away on business for around a week, so this might be the last update for a little while.
