Hobby Update: Ghosts and Tanks
The Vilniaus 39th is reinforced by a second Rogal Dorn, and a host of Ghosts
Another hobby update! I’ve been sprinting through some backlog items recently [ed - less of the agile references, please] as I work towards my 40K league list being completely painted. What have I completed recently? On top of the Leman Russ updates from last week, I’ve now finished my Gaunt’s Ghosts and second Rogal Dorn tank!
Gaunt’s Ghosts
This unit was a fun kit. Of course they are Guard infantry, but with some added spice. The cloaks are very distinctive, and they are all in varied poses, and they are all really very individual. I wanted to make sure they broadly aligned with the overall aesthetics of the army - so beige fatigues, red armour etc - but also something a bit different, still.
Here are some pics of the finished models!
I did consider doing something else - instead of just drybrushing grey - for the cloaks, such as flecks of white or grey like I did for my Vindicare Assassin proxy recently, but I decided against it as I wasn’t sure how it would look considering the cloaks are all flowing and creased.
Regardless, I like the effect considering the amount of effort I put in (ie, not a huge investment). I consider these now battle-ready and I look forward to deploying them in round two of the league!
Another Rogal Dorn
When I was first building my list, I considered that it is very common for 2k lists to take them in duos, in particular in competitive matchups. As I was putting it together, I made sure to keep certain bits separate to assist with painting (eg the tracks).
I also experimented with using the Games Workshop spray stick and that really helped by enabling me to prime the whole mini in literally a few minutes - it just required some minimal cleanup around the guns and some of the sponsons.
And here’s some pics of the finished tank:
As with my recent Leman Russ Exterminator, I haven’t done transfers or other additional decals/flags yet - my focus is getting this ready for battle. I’ll do it at some later date, perhaps in the next couple of weeks.
As always, thanks for reading! Next up will be my first battle with these two newly painted units.
Looking good!
