Imperial Breachers: Not Quite Lost in the Warp…

With Arks of Omen releasing, focus pivots to the Imperial Navy…

The whole point of this blog is to keep myself accountable with this army, so here’s some accountability - I’m a little off track but there’s reasons!

Last time I mentioned prioritising next the first of my ordinance batteries from the Cadia Stands box, along with a squad of Bullgryns that have been on the shelf for far too long. Well, that’s changed. Now that Arks of Omen have released - an expansion really quite focussed on boarding actions - it makes sense I finish the last remaining 10% or so of effort for my Breachers first. They are, after all, heavy naval infantry armed with shotguns (and a bunch of other close-quarters kit), well suited!

(Aside: it’s almost like this is all part of a clever strategy by Games Workshop, releasing navy units when a related expansion is just around the corner…smart).

I’ve made frustratingly little progress since going away earlier in the month. Between that, being in the throes of a new job, and also about to go away again for a week, the mobilisation efforts are really not on track. Fingers crossed I get an evening beforehand to finish this squad off…

So, where are we today?

Aside: these models are fantastic and a joy to work with. It’s really exciting to see Games Workshop create models from organisations that have existed in the lore for decades, but never once been represented (officially) on the battlefield. I hope this happens more often!

I’d say pretty close. The main areas are functionally complete, it’s more a few details left. As I see it the next steps will be:

• Drybrush metal over any suitable areas, such as weapons, boots, other equipment.

• Cleanup any really messy bits.

• Base.

Optionally, I’m also thinking of adding some colour somewhere to make some of them pop a bit more. The two heavies in the squad, for example, don’t have as much red due to their armour covering their red-lined fatigues, so they look a bit less visually diverse (ie, dull). I’m considering a couple of spot colours to add more visual interest - for example painting any touchscreens (green perhaps?) and things like that.

Overall not a whole lot, and I want to limit myself to strictly ‘battle-ready’ due to the long backlog of other items. I think once I get this squad done, I’ll move onto the ordinance battery and Bullgryns next.

Here’s hoping I make a bit of progress on these Breachers before I go away again…
