Welcome to the Vilniaus 39th blog! The Vilniaus 39th are an intrepid regiment of Astra Militarum - otherwise known as the Imperial Guard - fighting the good fight in the Imperium in the far future of the 41st millenium.
Why start the blog?
As a product manager working in the tech space for the past seven or so years, I write a surprising lot for my job. I have also tinkered with Warhammer 40k (especially the IG) for as long as I can remember. Somehow, these two big things have never intersected in any meaningful way.
Mix this with a massively refreshed Astra Militarum range and me optimistically buying two boxes of Cadia Stands containing 60 or so models… and…well I have a bit of a challenge on my hands! I’m intending to use this blog to document the build-out of this force, the techniques I’ve used, and eventually their exploits on the battlefields of the far future.
As someone who also isn’t a hugely talented hobbyist - I probably use contrast paints to within an inch of their life to get everything looking good enough - I hope this blog can also provide low-hanging fruit guidance/advice/what-not-to-do for anyone.

And now, let’s take a look at what I’ve achieved thus far, including some pics, and a look at what I’m working on next.
What have I done recently?
So, let’s start. As I mentioned, I recently purchased two boxes of Cadia Stands - so the objective right now is to get those completed. I already have some Astra Militarum, too. A few Leman Russ Battle Tanks, some Death Korps of Krieg, some Palanite Enforcers masquerading as Scions/Kasrkin, and a few other bits and bobs.
This is all in various states - as I subscribe to the Cult that is Notion I even have a handy kanban board tracking it to somewhat encourage progress:
Anyway - of this kanban, the only unit so far that I’ve completed is a squad section of Cadian Shock Troops. I’ve equipped them in a pretty stand way - section commander has a drum-fed autogun (easily one oy my favourite additions of the new codex), along with a plasmagunner and meltagunner. Rounding out the special equipment is a vox caster screaming into the radio (why are they always screaming?).

What am I working on next?
Next on my list are three units that I’m doing more-or-less at the same time:
The first command squad - including all the options such as an officer, colour sergeant, medic, sergeant/bodyguard (suitably sporting both a powerfist and a cigar), and a dude totting a plasmagun (with, suitable, what looks like a large ovenglove for get’s hot!).
A sentinel - like those AT-STs from Star Wars, just ever slightly more chonky, with options for chainsaws too.
An ordinance battery - some of the fantastic new heavy weapons provided in the new Astra Militarum codex. I’ve build the first two as a bombast cannon and heavy lascannon. These models have been a treat to put together so far.
