Hobby Update: Retro revival - a new tank from the Horus Heresy
The Vilniaus 39th is joined by it's fourth Leman Russ tank
Another day, another Leman Russ!
As I continue building out the Vilniaus 39th, giving myself more tactical options and a better ability to play 2000 pt games, I’ve completed my fourth Leman Russ tank! This one is the Solar Auxilia version from Warhammer: The Horus Heresy when I got the Solar Auxilia battlegroup launch boxed set earlier in the year. Previously I’ve completed the Sentinel and Basilisk from that set.
Here are some pics!
Simply put a lovely kit. I love how it’s so much more retro than the standard 40k equivalent. I had quite a bit of fun getting the normal 40k sponsons to fit (as they don’t come on the Solar Auxilia kit), and took a while to decide where to put a hunter-killer missile (or two) that I’d borrowed from the Aethon Heavy Sentinel sprue. Overall I think the effect looks good!

As you may notice, it’s missing a couple of hallmarks that my tanks normally have - namely the bulldozer, transfers, and maybe a Lithuanian flag or two. Those will come, but my aim right now is to churn through a couple of units I’m using in the Wargamer league I’m part of.
In addition to this, I also did some additional weapon options for one of my existing Leman Russ tanks, so it can serve as a Tank Commander. Yes, you may notice it’s not technically a demolished cannon - but at least it’s obviously not a variant that people actually take in games.
And that’s it for this hobby update! Next up, I’m working on my Gaunts Ghosts and a second Rogal Dorn.
